Google's Self-Driving Car

Google's self-driving vehicle has fascinated our minds with its technological promise considering becoming introduced in 2010 but yesterday, the self-driving automobile touched our hearts.

Google posted a video of the self-driving vehicle taking a legally blind man for a spin, showing 1 of the alternatives and benefits that could possibly come from the technology.

Google, which posted the video on its Google+ account, stated the drive took location on a carefully programmed route and showed one of the solutions that self-driving cars might possibly offer you.

Though it truly is uncertain just how far off self-driving cars is usually from becoming a truth, the process to getting there is completely in motion. Just last month, Nevada became the initially state to legalize self-driving cars, according to PCMag.

The self-driving vehicle takes Mahan to Taco Bell for a painless meal along with a dry cleaner to pick up his clothes.

"Where this would alter my life would be to supply me the independence plus the flexibility to go towards the places I each will need to go and have to go as soon as I need to do those issues," Steve Mahan says at the video.

"Look, Ma, no hands," Mahan says. "No hands, no feet."

"There's significantly left to style and test, on the other hand we've now safely completed a great deal more than 200,000 miles of computer system-led driving, gathering terrific experiences and an overwhelming number of enthusiastic supporters," Google said at the post.

New Technology of Whiplash

New technology has been gradually introduced to help battle the pain of whiplash injuries in car accidents and also to deal with the high number of whiplash claims in their wake. A new set of technologies is being tested by Insurer funded research centre Thatcham and they believe that it is potentially so groundbreaking that it could save insurers millions of pounds every year by cutting down on whiplash claims.

The laser and radar devices in concern are being offered by manufacturers Volvo, Honda and Mercedes and works by preventing collisions by stopping cars getting too close to the vehicles in front.

In particular, Thatcham believe that Volvos windscreen mounted laser beam is likely to become the most effective as it performss best in low-speed incidents. Whiplash claims usually result from accidents in such conditions, like if a car hit the back of another car that hesitated on a roundabout or a traffic junction. Thatcham opine that 80% of accidents that cause claims are the result of low-speed crashes.
The laser beam works by tracking how close a car is to another in a fast paced town situation; it will brake by itself at the last possible second to stop any sort of accident. This breaking mechanism is not dependent on the driver, it is completely autonomous.

It is not just low speed crashes that are the subject of the new technology, but also high speed crashes. Covering that end of the market, both Hondas CMBS system and Distronic Plus program on Mercedes help to cut down accidents. Honda has also taken the step of tightened seat belts before an impending accident to notify the driver of a developing problem.

Of course such sophisticated carry a significant price tag but in the long run are likely to put insurers minds at ease and lead to greater savings. Currently the systems are retailing at the 2,000 mark but their cost is outweighed by the safety they provide and the fact that it will certainly win brownie details with car insurance providers.

Thatcham believe that if every car is equipped with one of the devices, there could be a 50% decrease in the current 250,000 whiplash injuries every season. Critics might argue that it will encourage careless driving but the failsafe emergency braking system would result in a scenario where you could be braking all the time because of a lack of care in your driving.

Other developments come courtesy of Toyota who recently declared that it had designed the worlds first rear-end collision detection system that warn drivers of an impending collision with the help of a radar device installed in the cars rear bumper. This radar senses if a vehicle is a approaching from behind. When the system detects a possible collision, sensors in the front headrests detect the position of the drivers and front passengers heads. The system then changes the headrests positions to avoid the risk of whiplash injury.

How You Will Save a Lot of Money by Owning and Driving an Electric Car

In today’s economy, we have to face the fact that we need to save money for emergencies. With the way the economy is performing nowadays, you really can’t exaggerate when it comes to saving money. This is also one of the reasons why more and more people are now selling their old gasoline powered cars and are buying electric cars.

So, just how can electric cars make you save a lot of money?

For starters, electric cars run purely on electricity. This means that if you own and drive an electric car, you no longer have to buy gasoline or any other petroleum products ever again in order for you to power your car or make your car run.

This is the main advantage of electric cars. So, just how do electric cars work?

Basically, electric cars work by using electricity to make the wheels of the car roll. It’s really very much like your battery-operated RC car but on a larger scale. Just think of it as a large RC car where you have batteries for power and that you can actually ride in it. Also, instead of using a remote control to make the car go forward or reverse or turn or stop, you control the car just like your average gasoline powered car.

You need to understand that electric cars are not a new concept. In fact, this concept has existed since the first car was developed. The idea of electric car was scrapped back in those days because the technology for efficient battery and lighter materials for the car’s body still didn’t exist.

It took hours upon hours to charge the batteries and the power to weight ration for the car was really terrible. Electric cars in the past were expensive and it wasn’t really as practical as gasoline powered cars.

Even today, gasoline powered cars are still more powerful than electric cars. But, because of the unstable price of gasoline and also because of the recent global economic crisis, the electric car idea was resurrected as some people may describe it.

Initially, electric cars were developed because of the growing concerns for the environment and also global warming. However, because of the financial crisis that the whole world is experiencing today, electric cars are now becoming very popular among a lot of people.

Unlike in the past, electric cars today are now equipped with the latest battery cell technology, which really made it more efficient and also a lot more practical. In addition to that, electric cars are now made a lot smaller and are also made with lighter materials. Combine this with powerful electric motor and state of the art battery cell technology, you will have a good power to weight ratio.

Today, you will see that you will not only save money on gasoline if you own electric cars. The batteries are so efficient that a single charge that will cost you a dollar on your electric bill will now be able to take you a hundred miles or even more.

And, because the federal government is encouraging people to buy electric or hybrid cars, you will also enjoy tax breaks offered by the government for people who own and use electric cars.

As you can see, electric cars can really help you save a lot of money. As an added bonus, you will also contribute to the well-being of the environment and also help stop the effects of global warming. These are the benefits of owning and using an electric car. It won’t be long in the future that you will see that more and more people will now start using electric cars as their primary vehicle for transportation.

BMW Hybrid Car

Joining the number of Car manufacturers that have been concerned for the growing demand for environment friendly cars, German car manufacturing giant BMW has announced that they too would soon be producing and selling Hybrid cars. Within the next four years, BMW will be providing its own version of the phenomenal and popular hybrid car.

Knowing the many innovations and excellent qualities BMW has contributed to the motor world, we can be sure that this would be another automotive engineering breakthrough that would set the par others would follow.

BMW said that their Hybrid car would run on both Hydrogen and petroleum and this would be first infused in the 7 series BMW. Already, BMW has some of these cars test driven in different countries. Researchers and engineers are already staging some tests and are getting feedbacks to perfect their first hybrid car release. BMW doesn’t want to release just a beautiful looking car, they want one that will be truly environment friendly as well as performing beautifully.

Deviating from the usual fuel cells used by other hybrid car manufacturers, BMW decided on using hydrogen-fuel combined with an internal combustion engine. This led to more research and development needed because of the demand of the engine to keep the hydrogen in liquid form, and this poses as a problem in keeping them cold enough to do just that. If the engine becomes too hot, the hydrogen may evaporate requiring frequent fill ups. Another quandary is keeping the hydrogen from evaporating while in transit to the engine. But BMW has said that it has found the solution to this problem.

BMW sees hydrogen as the solution, but it would take about two more decades before a car can actually be run by hydrogen only. But they are positive that this is very achievable.

BMW claims that for the past thirty years, they have been developing technology that could just lead to the first ever pure hydrogen vehicle. They already have a car that is being powered by water, a car that emits water vapor at the tailpipe, and are to retrieve hydrogen from sunlight.

BMW has been focusing on Hydrogen as a great power source for cars because it is the best solution to the ever-worsening emissions from vehicles that contributes to environmental pollution. This is because hydrogen doesn’t have dangerous emissions, it poses no harm to the atmosphere, it doesn’t deplete natural resources, as it can be take from numerous recyclable sources. This is BMW's solution, powering vehicles with hydrogen produced from water through the use of solar energy. This advancement in technology is evident with the BMW 750hl production car showcased at the Expo 2000. Together with some of its partners, BMW may be behind in the mass production of Hybrid cars, but they are the forefront in Hybrid technology.

Soon enough, we will all be the beneficiaries of all of these developments and innovations. Not only will we able to save up on gas money, we will also be saving the environment. Owning a Hybrid car doesn’t have to mean riding in cramped cars with low engine power. With the unveiling of the BMW hybrid car in the near future, you get sophistication, power, elegance and style while helping clean up our air.

The Fantastic Use and Great Advantages of A Hybrid Car

The cost of fuel and the damage it brings to our environment has become very rampant, and because of that, hybrid cars are presently considered as very beneficial to the preservation of the environment. The reason behind this is that hybrid cars do not depend mainly on fuel for it to have power, but it also makes use of electricity that results to a smaller amount of fuel consumption and less emitted air pollution.

A hybrid car combines an electric motor and gasoline engine to provide sufficient power to the vehicle with least fuel usage and fewer emissions. They are also far more fuel-efficient than purely gas-powered cars, and far more practical for everyday use than purely electric-powered cars. Combining the two sources of power, a vehicle then is created that is relatively non-polluting and will lead to less fuel consumption which means it possesses enough power to have freeway speeds that does not need too much fuel, it is also great for the stop and go driving in traffic laden areas.

The hybrid car was created due to the result of the demand and clamor to clean the environment from pollutions and for the need to rely less on fuel. To be able to recharge, plugging the hybrid into an electric outlet is not necessary. They charge themselves by means of power usually lost during coasting and braking and can also be charged by the car’s gasoline engine.

It can offer more benefits than the usual regular gasoline engine type cars. Here is a list of the many advantages hybrid cars offers.

1. Pollution is less promoted

It is a fact that the continuous damage to our ozone layer is due to the greenhouse effect, and one of the factor that contributes to its damage is pollution in the air, in which dangerous chemicals are transferred to the air, like carbon dioxide that are emitted by vehicles. The measure of carbon dioxide emitted by the hybrid vehicle is principally relative to the quantity of fuel it consumes; thus hybrid cars can absolutely be a contributing factor in lessening the advancement of global warming.

With the use of hybrid cars, fewer fuel is consumed because hybrid car do not totally use gas in order to operate, it also makes use of electricity, a power source that doesn't bring any danger to the environment.

2. More mileage with less fuel consumption

The obvious advantage of hybrid car is that it saves on gas. With the use of hybrid cars, you are able to save gas money because you don’t need to buy gas after every long trip wherein you can go several miles consuming less fuel.

3. Hybrid cars can help lower your taxes

Tax rebates are given to hybrid cars buyers, so if you buy a hybrid car your tax refunds can be withheld from your taxes and will provide you with additional savings.

4. Your money gains more value

A hybrid car can retain a higher resale value. If you ever want to trade or sell a previously owned hybrid car you can be sure that you will get more of what you paid for it.

5. Efficiency and performance are what defines Hybrid Cars

Hybrid cars have smaller engines than the regular gasoline cars since the power is obtained form two sources, so the smaller engines are closer to the normal power necessity of engines that will give an efficient performance.

6. “Hybrid car technology” is the greatest solution to today’s increasing problem in car air pollution

Hybrid cars uses lesser fuel and a groundbreaking technology that may avoid possible damages to the environment caused by the usual cars

Despite of many uses and advantages, there is one thing to be considered regarding the hybrid cars, its actual price in the market is not yet that affordable to a lot of people, but it is an investment that will pay a hundred fold.

Buy an Electric Car?

Buy an Electric Car

Electric cars are increasingly becoming very popular among a lot of people today. Besides, because of the economy that the country is experiencing today as well as the unstable gasoline prices, you too would want to start saving money even if it means not driving your gas guzzling car. If you are considering buying an electric car, you may want to know more about electric cars in order for you to make the right decision when buying one.

First of all, you have to remember that electric cars use an electric motor for propulsion. It doesn’t use internal combustion engines like what you will find in conventional cars where controlled explosions of gasoline are the primary source of energy. All in all, this will mean that you don’t have to pay off another cent to buy gasoline in order to get your car to run. You don’t even need to stop in your local gas station ever again.

In the United States, you will see that you will be able to find electric cars almost anywhere. However, you may want to remember that you should first do a little research about a particular electric car in order for you to know if the car is indeed suited for your needs. Also, by researching, you will avoid getting ripped off or pay too much money for an electric car. Always keep in mind that the point of buying an electric car is to save money.

Although electric cars that are available today are indeed more expensive than your conventional car, you have to remember that it wouldn’t necessarily be that expensive. You need to keep in mind that you will find car dealers charging way too much on electric cars and a lot of people who don’t do their research or homework end up buying the electric car for way too much money.

This is basically why you have to familiarize yourself with the prices of electric cars. By doing so, you will be able to get the best deals out of the electric car you plan on buying.

You need to keep in mind that the technology for electric cars has come a long way. However, it is still in its infancy. The latest in battery cell technology to be used in electric cars have just been discovered. In the past, the batteries were really heavy and are not that efficient. Today, the batteries for electric cars are a lot more powerful, lighter, and you will be able to fully charge it at a shorter amount of time.

Electric cars may cost you more money than conventional cars. However, if you consider the gasoline prices that we have today as well as the state of the country’s economy, going electric is one of the best ways for you to save money.

Electric cars are extremely efficient. Although you can’t expect it to go from 0 to 60 in 6 seconds, it will get you to the places you want to go without having to stop and refuel in gasoline stations ever again.

So, if you are looking for a way to save money on gasoline, you may want to go electric. Aside from saving money, you will also see that with an electric car, you will also contribute to the overall well being of the environment by driving a vehicle that does not emit pollution.

Electric Cars: The Future of Driving

Electric Cars: The Future of Drivingby: Marek Zulius

In the past few years, you will see that there has been a significant increase on the demand for electric cars. In fact, more and more people are now considering selling their old gasoline powered car and go electric. And, there are people who are now proud owners and drivers of electric cars.

So, just what is it with electric cars that a lot of people are now buying one for their own and is easily replacing conventional gasoline powered cars?

First of all, you have to consider the electric cars are more expensive than conventional cars. It is also slower and electric cars are also smaller in size compared to conventional gasoline powered cars. And, even though this is the case, a lot of people still prefer electric cars over gasoline powered cars.

The most popular reason for this fact is that electric cars are a lot cheaper to drive than gasoline powered cars. Why?

Although electric cars are more expensive to buy off the market, you will find that it will be a lot cheaper to own in the long run. This is basically because electric cars run purely on electricity. It doesn’t use gasoline, which means that you won’t have to stop by the gasoline station ever again. Just imagine how much money you will save by not purchasing gasoline in order to make your car run?

Electric cars are powered by an electric motor instead of your traditional internal combustion engine. The electric motor gets its power from the batteries installed in the electric car. Although you do need to charge the batteries, you will see that with today’s battery cell technology, a dollar’s worth of electricity will be able to get you a hundred miles with your electric car before you ever need to recharge the batteries again.

So, if you use your car everyday, you can easily add 30 dollars in your monthly electric bill, which is way better than spending a hundred dollars a month in gasoline. In the long run, you will see that electric cars are far cheaper than conventional gasoline powered cars.

You also have to keep in mind that cars that run on electricity are not a new concept. In fact, cars like this were invented ever since the first car was developed. The idea was scrapped because of the available battery cell technology. Thanks to the advancement of technology, it is now possible for cars to run on electricity through batteries and do so efficiently.

These cars are made with lighter materials, and are significantly smaller than conventional cars. This is a great way to get a good power to weight ratio, which will make the car go faster and also go farther than its predecessors. Although the electric cars existing today aren’t as fast or as powerful as cars with internal combustion engine, it does offer what most people want today, which is big savings.

In addition to that, electric cars do not emit harmful gas, which contribute to greenhouse gas in the atmosphere and ultimately global warming. Because of the environmental concerns that people have today, electric cars are fast becoming popular, especially to people who are concerned about the environment.

These reasons alone are enough to give you the conclusion that electric cars will surely be the future of driving. It won’t be long until you see that most people will start driving electric cars.

Types Of Hybrid Cars

There are several different types of hybrid cars, so people have a good amount of choices available to them when they make their way to the dealership. This may be good or bad for consumers. Some car buyers were already blown away by all of the colors and accessories available to them. Now, they have to deal with this fact: There are many different types of hybrid cars. In any case, a person should choose the hybrid car that is suitable to their needs. The different types of hybrid cars are listed below.

The full hybrid
This hybrid car is awesome. If your hybrid car can propel forward when it's already going at low speeds, you might own a full hybrid. But it must be able to do this while using no gasoline whatsoever.

The parallel hybrid car
This hybrid car has a fuel tank that gives gasoline to the engine. During this time, batteries give power to a motor that is electric. The two motors give off energy that works to propel the car forward.

The series hybrid car
In a series hybrid car, a generator is turned on by a fuel engine. And the generator does one of two things. It can either work as a battery charger for the motor or charge batteries. In turn, these batteries work to give energy to the electric motor that propels the transmission. This means that this type of hybrid car never needs to use the fuel engine to get power, at least not directly.

Today, all hybrid cars are parallel hybrid cars. There are some concept cars that might be called series hybrid cars, but a lot of times the car manufacturers do not want to call their cars series hybrid cars. So they don't call them that, and the public is left to guess what new types of cars are coming out next. Finally, there is the plug-in hybrid car, and that's the talk of every savvy automotive consumer. People were just starting to get that you never have to plug in a hybrid car in, but now these cars are being created supposedly with other motives than to just plain confuse people.

When thinking about what manufacturers make each type of hybrid car, the Lexus, Ford, and Toyota hybrids can be called fueled hybrids. However, the Honda and Saturn hybrid cars cannot be called full hybrids.

These different types of hybrid cars were made to give people more options and more ideas. And the options definitely don't disappoint anyone.

The type of hybrid car chosen should align with a consumer's driving and economic needs. For instance, some of the hybrid models may be more affordable than others. And some people may not require that their car have a lot of advanced features. However, it cant hurt to have those features available.

People often change their minds when it comes to cars. And where a hybrid car is concern, things aren't any different. So, when a person is ready to change their mind about what type of hybrid car they'd like, the automotive industry is ready and waiting.
