Gas Station Robot

A trip to the gas station of the future may no longer require the driver to leave the car. Tankpitstop the Robot will do it all for you.

A group of Dutch inventors have taken the wraps off their new car-fueling robot "Tankpitstop", which they hope will one day be filling up your tank at a gas station near your. Somewhat interestingly, the inventors admit that the technology isn't an entirely new idea, and they give credit for the inspiration to the robots used for milking cows.

After registering the car as it pulls up to the pump, the machine matches your fuel cap design with those in a database and your car's fuel type, and then a robotic arm fitted with multiple sensors extends from a regular gas pump, 'opens the car's flap, unscrews the cap, picks up the fuel nozzle and directs it towards the tank opening, much as a human arm would, and as efficiently. It costs over $110,000 as is the first car-fueling robot.

Would you trust a robot to gas up your car?
