Can Online College Degree Improving Your Life?

I'm sure everyone knows that education is quite important and being knowledgeable gives you an edge in life. With the arrival of the Internet, continued education, once only the privilege of the rich, is now within affordable reach for the masses. Getting an additional college degree online is probably one of the best method of improving your status in life. It doesn't just offer a chance for additional income but also increases a person's confidence and improves you mentally in a way that only new knowledge can do.

The boom in online educational programs is quite noticeable. Most large universities in the United States offer online programs and surveys say that there is twenty percent yearly increase in online course enrollments as opposed to the one percent increase found in traditional course. This boom is mostly because of the two things that online courses provide: flexibility in terms of time and money. A working or stay-at-home mother can quite easily undertake an online course in her free time that could help her land a job. Usual course lengths of twelve to eighteen months enable students to get through the courses quickly and yet at their own pace.

All of this is done at quarter of the price of the traditional course – the savings made by not requiring classroom attendance are immense and server space and bandwidth, the bread and butter of online courses, usually cost less than a hundred dollars a year, yet manage to service more than ten classrooms' worth of students. These savings are then passed on to the student. Those aren't the only things that the student saves on – transport fees, dorm fees and other sundry things that are usually the requirements of college life are practically non-existant.

With all that, why shouldn't you get one yourself? Here's a few tips to get you started on getting that degree:

1) Find out what degree you want. A lot of courses are available but you should choose something that you're interested in and that you would be motivated to learn about. Popular courses are usually computer-related since they are easy to explain via online lectures and examples.

2) Do a little canvassing. Online degrees can cost from a few hundred dollars to, at worst, several thousand dollars. It would be good to check and compare your options before enrolling. You can also check out if they're offering scholarships or if you're legible for financial aid.

3) Make sure you want to do this. This isn't the normal class where you are poked and prodded to do your best, You're practically on your own on this and you need the will and the drive to want to get that degree and to finish your course. Also take note that you have to be able to do the work for it: you may want to but if there are any extenuating circumstances that may delay or hinder your studies, better back off for now and not waste any money.

An online college can be the edge that you need in life to get success. It would be best to get one as soon as possible.

Metal Detecting Benefits

Metal detectingby: Sheila Heskey

Metal detecting as a hobby might be strange and tedious for some person, with a handful of others looking at the activity with disdain. But honestly, metal detecting as a hobby is already a popular activity for more than 40 years, and with the internet disseminating more information about this wonderful hobby, it seems far off before this activity loses its luster. The best reasons why metal detecting will be around for a very long time are its benefits, both short term and long term. If you've entertained the notion of trying it, reading this post can give you more reasons into finally taking up metal detecting as a hobby. I promise you that you will never regret it.

Below are some of the benefits of metal detecting.

IT'S A GOOD WORK OUT
Metal detecting can appeal to quite a big number of health freaks, especially those people who are already in their golden years. It is a wonderful form of exercise since the activity involves a lot of walking. You also have to do a lot of crouching and bending, not to mention lifting and digging. Older people also love the fact that they can walk at their own pace, since metal detection doesn't really require much speed. The freedom to decide the frequency and duration of rest intervals also bode well to their usually fragile physical constitution. And finally, basking in the beauty of the surroundings and breathing the fresh air are involved in the activity, and we all know that spending time outdoors is always good for our health.

IMPROVES THE QUALITY OF LIFE
This hobby can improve the quality of life in more ways than one. I believe that a sense of adventure is a basic inclination of the human psyche, and when stoked, can be very rewarding both physically and intellectually. The thrill of discovery, compounded by the excitement of the hunt, can stimulate the mind and loosen the cobwebs of crankiness that can often be attributed to old age. You can also meet lots of interesting people who share a fondness for this particular hobby. In fact, there are hundreds of metal detecting clubs in the United States alone. These clubs give enthusiasts opportunities to share with each other their own experiences in metal detecting, show each other their particular finds, and share advice about the science of metal detection. Going to these particular meetings is very beneficial to beginners when it comes to acquiring tips and advice from experienced hunters.

CAN BE A SOURCE OF PROFIT
If you're going out on a hunt for stuff, then you might as well earn profit from it, right? If you are able to get some precious metals like gold and silver during your hunts, you can always sell them at pawnshops and scrap buyers.

The possibilities of metal detecting are limitless, and the pull of the hunt is an urge that cannot be denied. So go ahead and pick up your metal detector! Your biggest find could be buried somewhere out there, just waiting to be discovered.

What Can Mobile Computing Do To Your Business?

by: Barbara Pauline

The wireless technology has brought in a new trend in computing, mobile computing. It is the cross between fixed wireless and mobility applications. In mobile computing, users have portable devices to enjoy its characteristics. Among these portable devices are handheld smart phones, pocket pcs, personal digital assistants or PDA, and of course, laptops. Using these handheld devices allow the people to continue accessing shared infrastructure irrespective of their location and having flexible communication.

In general sense, mobile computing is the use of any computer physically not connected by wires to the host computer or server. It is about interaction that requires now wires, but means real-time connection, plus synchronization procedure, depending on the application used. Simply put, this technology has put a new revolutionized ways on how people utilize computers and get connected with each other.

With the various innovative ideas provided in the information technology market, various solutions and innovations have also been coming out front in the mobile computing industry. Companies that have taken advantaged of the mobile computing platforms have been embracing changes and propelling themselves into the front market seat. While those who have refused to succumb were forced to be in the backseat.

Accordingly, the employers have benefited from the fast coming horizon of the technology. The innovative video and audio experiences it provided to every worker has spawned new opportunities and approaches how they can be more efficient, productive, and innovative with their work. The employers of course are gaining much more from this experience, enabling the growth of the business because of the mature and high-fashioned manner dealings with industry.

With all the advantages that mobile computing is providing, it is inevitable that there are disadvantages. While you are gaining success, with increase in employees' efficiency and productivity, there could be lawsuits and issues that could arise in the process. Because of the fast rising of the mobile computing, that every business has been adapting to it, there is an increase in liabilities as well.

How does this happen? In case many of you are not aware, there are new law cases that have been showing how employers can be liable when accidents happen while mobile technologies are used, in this case when driving, crossing streets, and not just paying attention because of occupancy to any mobile gadget. The bad news is it does not only cover work periods but even non-work hours.

The lawyers see a potential of getting good chunks from the new efficiency that mobile computing technology is providing to your business. While you are receiving incredible growth in productivity and efficiency statistics because of the implementation of such advanced technology, you are also welcoming the possibilities of severe litigations in the case of accidents.

You wouldn't want disasters to happen along with your business' success, so even though mobile computing technology is such a wonderful and incredible change in the business strategy, you might wish to be always up with all these law cases issues concerning the use of mobile handsets, portable gadgets and devices, before they can ruin your attempts of completely mobilizing your company's entire workforce.

The Risks of Mobile Computing Devices

by: Barbara Pauline

There is no doubt that mobile computing device is made for good and advancement in this world of technology. No matter how hard the situation goes, technology and discoveries are always finding ways to solve the issue and lessen the burdens and disadvantages. But no matter how advantage a system may bring, there is always a disadvantage in every aspect.

In regard to this, I will discuss the disadvantages and risks of a mobile computing device. My purpose is not to degrade or taking you away from these advancements but only to make you aware of the consequences and in this case, we can do better and have precautions on our every own action. Make it sure that actions must be taken care of, so that we can have a better and well modernized society.

Mobile computing devices carries a big memory disc and can store hundreds of files. We always put lots of our important files in this memory so it would be easy for us to access it at anytime. Risk will occur in this case since most of us frequently left our mobile computing device unprotected. Thus, it makes it easy for some hackers to steal our files and loss it. But even though the file was not totally lost or stolen, these system intruders easily gains access and copy an important file if we left or devices unprotected. And during wireless communication is a perfect timing for these program intruders to enter on your system virtually.

If left with no firewall and no protection at all, they can even install a spyware program that will log all information and processes you've done to your device. And in worst cases, capturing of credit card information, account log in details and passwords, company's confidential formula, and studies saved on your system. They can do this easily at no sweat and hassle free.
Files may include savings on the bank when you go online banking, or social security number, health benefactors, research and facts that are not published yet, formulas, contact details, property information, and even decryption keys.

If we are working on a company, the company will entrust us the internal information and the client's information as well. Most of the time, we keep these files on our system so we can access it right away. And the best security that we can do is to have it encrypted so nobody can access it. The risk is that, if we lost the decryption key, there is no way for us to read or access the encrypted key. So it would a lost of file forever and no way to unlock it ever.

These are just the major risk if we depend on mobile computing device. However, these disadvantages and risks are manageable. If we only do our part with responsibility, then we can surely avoid any risks and/or damages to any restricted file that we and/or our company are trying to protect.

Debunking The Myths Of Mobile Devices

The consumers have gotten so used to the static network internet activities that the introduction of mobile computing has raised eyebrows not by many but by some who are still up to now skeptic over the true advantages of wireless internet access. While there would always be reason for these people to believe there are some elements of truth to their skepticism, these are going to appear like on the line of falsehoods especially at how the rate of today's technological rise is going.

So here are some mobile computing myths you would want to throw light on:

Lack in Processing Power, Key Size, and Screen

While they are smaller in size as compared to the conventional desktops people were so used to in the decades that passed, mobile devices are as near as powerful as the large computers. It is true that they lack the large physical interfaces like the keyboard, mouse, monitor, printer, and other peripherals; and because of these, people may think, the smaller computer devices are incapable of functioning like a true bigger computer does.

However, today's mobile and handheld devices are quite as capable. Most of these devices already come now with usable screens, QWERTY keyboards, and add-on small peripherals like earphones and others. In other gadgets, they already feature an aid which is for clicking or pointing on the screen, a very common interface with today's latest devices.

A Distraction to the Younger Generations

As the years unfold before us, the mobile devices are looked as ubiquitous and pervading elements distracting the younger generations from their daily lives. The corporate world has been seen with the same occurrence. However, a personal desktop computer can be as much as distractive as many thought the mobile devices are. If one chooses not to see the learning content of the high-end mobile devices and do the same with the larger computers, there is no much difference.

This is a challenge that many technology companies face, to bring high-end devices that feature engagement contents to the learning package that they come with so much so that users are not distracted but inspired to use them for better purposes. If the devices do not come with contents that can engage users to learn the essence of mobile computing, then, those devices can be nothing but real distraction.

The Cost Barriers and Inaccessibility

People would always say mobile devices are expensive and thus are inaccessible. However, when one would look at it, these devices are affordable because of their capability to bring mobile computing world right at the tips of their fingers without having to engage in high-cost and most often times complex wireless installation that it used to before. Most of the mobile devices of today are pre-loaded with features that make them ready to access the mobility internet, while others just require a piece of add-on feature to make them access the mobile internet anytime and anywhere.

Another point to debunk this myth is the fact that most high-end phones delivered to the buying public of today cost significantly less than they were a decade ago. Furthermore, a good thing you would want to see these days is that networks are charging far lower charges so all individuals would have easier chance of availing them.

The lower cost and charges are due to the increasing availability of the mobile computing technology and its users.

The Art of Mobile Computing

In this era of society, mobile computing is everywhere. People from all walks of life engage in mobile computing in a regular basis. As the market grows for mobile computing devices, so does the population that clings to such technology that they offer. However, this technology of M-Commerce has a lot more to offer to every individual in the planet. It really improve their lifestyle and also gives these people the opportunity to express themselves.

Mobile Computing Gadgets And Their Features

Mobile computing devices are now equipped with a lot of features which you can always personalize according to your preferences. A large variety of mobile computing devices is available in the global market in order to better serve people in whatever possible work that they may need. These mobile devices can help them with their studies, their work and even their businesses. What even attracts these people to use them is the ability of mobile computing devices to be personalized. People now have the opportunity to not only make the mobile computing devices their ally, but also a sense of themselves.

Today, countless mobile computing gadgets have stepped outside the confinement of the traditional black, white and silver palettes. People can actually spice up their mobile computing devices with features such as personalized themes, ringtones, message tones, and even personalized contacts and views. In the past, people have been regarded with how they present themselves physically. But now, you can actually predict things about a person by examining his mobile computing devices alone.

Combining Art With Mobile Computing

Moreover, not only does mobile computing allow having the ability to be personalized within, but also in its physical setup. Users always have the option to purchase accessories such as device cases and bags wherein they can store their mobile computing devices while they are on the go. People now have more option than plain black or brown leather. Today people can actually choose from a variety of colors and designs which in essence offer the same quality as to earlier cases. Furthermore, these mobile computing devices can also be masked with art so that users can permanently design their devices.

When such a setup continues in the global market, it eventually helps the artists innovate their art and works. Art can transform from traditional canvasses to 3D decorations of the mobile computing device. Their art may not be confined in art museums and walls of buildings, rather it can be brought anywhere and everywhere the mobile computing device may be. Such a mobility of their art helps them in promoting their creativity and potentials to the greater society.

Not to mention that it not only personalizes your gadgets, but it also helps the greater population in terms of a deeper meaning in learning. Now, they have the ability to make themselves more creative and imaginative as to how their mobile computing devices look and feel. The ability of personalization all the more encourages a society that not only gives regard to functionality but also to creativity and art.

What Is the White Balance Setting on my Digital Camera?

by: Lily Anton

Have you ever taken a picture of a beautiful winter scene and been unhappy to discover the crisp, white snow came out with a bluish tint? This is the kind of situation your digital camera’s white balance is meant to prevent.

The white balance is a sensor that analyzes the lighting conditions and colors of a scene and adjusts so the white in the picture appears white. This helps insure the other colors appear as natural as possible. This is one advantage digital photography has over tradition film. With film, you buy with a certain lighting condition in mind. If that changes, you need to either swap your film or hope you can fix any errors in post-production.

Most digital cameras allow you to use either automatic white balance or choose between several preset conditions such as full sun, cloudy day and so forth. Automatic white balance will work in most conditions. There may be times, however when you want to “warm” up a picture to enhance the color, such as for portraits or sunsets. The best way to do this is set your camera’s white balance to “cloudy”. This will deepen the colors and add a glowing quality to portraits. It will take a beautiful sunset and enhance it to the point of incredible.

Practice taking the same photo with different white balance settings to get a feel for the changes each setting evokes. Keep notes until you have a good idea of what each setting does. In time, you will come to automatically sense which setting is best for your particular situation.

White balance is a small setting that can make big changes in your finished photos. Make it your friend and you will no longer have to worry about faded sunsets or blue snow.

Search engines – What are they really?

Search EngineSearch engines have the main purpose to index thousands of millions of web pages. Once you look for a word or a phrase, the search engine scans automatically the entire database where it has the stored pages indexed and it returns to you as a result a list containing the most relevant results for that search.

The only criteria the number of pages found and their relevance depend on are the capabilities of the used search engine.

Search engines appeared somewhere in the early 90’s when Alan Emtage, a student at the McGill University in Montreal created the first search engine like too. It was called Archie. Its purpose was to search through the information available on the FTP servers. The files on these servers were available for anyone, but one couldn’t use them unless knowing the exact address of the server and of the file. Archie looked through this database and gathered lists of files for each server. It was used by people to match phrases and characters in order to take them to the server address the file they were looking for was on.

Archie is now an old method, but its creation was the first step in the search engine rally that is going on now. As the public grew more and more aware of the existence of the internet, the need for a search tool became visible.

So, first there were some software robots, using the concept of spidering to index the web, following links from one site to the other and saving the text from all visited websites in a database.

Between 1994 and 1995 three important search engines appeared: Lycos, WebCrawler and AltaVista. At about the same time Yahoo! appeared but Yahoo! is not a search engine. Yes, it has a search engine function, but yahoo is firstly a director or data and articles, providing different services as email and hosting. Recently yahoo has signed contracts with other search engines as Google for both of them to provide more search results.

Today search engines are in a continuous competition. There are thousands of search engines, but just a few big ones. This small group of top search engines is responsible for more than 90% of online searches.

But the question arises: if search engines are free and they cam be used by everyone what keeps them financially alive? The answer to the question is very simple: advertising and traffic. The more visits they have, the bigger the traffic then the more money they can make providing promotion space.

Search engines are competing to develop the best formulas and algorithms to evaluate the web pages accordingly to the keywords provided. If someone is looking for a top position in search engines, then he has to be sure that his site is projected in such a way that search engines would find it easily, being relevant for the keywords and phrases the owner wants it to be found by.

Cyber Crime

by: Edison Dune

There is a very old and correct saying that goes on to say that a coin has two sides. Like a coin almost every aspect of life has two sides. For example the most common example can be taken of the advent of technology and the crime associated with it. With the advent of time and technology, computers have formed an integral part of the working society. Computers along with them have brought greater work and time efficiency in the working circle of the society as a whole. But there comes the twist. Along with all the benefits that computers and technology have brought, there also comes the rising and alarming threat of cyber crime.

Cyber crime in recent times has been credited along with a lot of attention by the general public, thanks to the almost impossible crimes committed by the hackers. The dangers that cyber crime is posing to computers and information in computers has been acknowledged by almost all the countries. Serious concern and alarm have been raised against the growing threat of cyber crime and its potential threat to the information possessed in the computers. The reason that cyber crime is posing a serious threat, is because of the reason that most countries around the world have no existing law that they can exert against cyber crimes. This leaves the businessmen and their business at the mere mercy of the technology that is being used by the businessmen in their business.

The only resort that the individuals have or can take against cyber crime is the way of self protection. Although self protection is the one step that people can take against cyber crimes, but still unfortunately it’s not a full proof safe step. As hackers can easily hack through the computers of others, this makes the information stored in the computer more vulnerable to information leakage. One main reason why cyber crime has been gathering so much of attention, is because of the fact that cyber crime has no boundaries of working or occurring. Cyber crime have been reportedly breaching national barriers at ease there by jeopardizing the political and the defense strategies of the country in front of the other nations, as it has been reported that after committing the crime the hackers sell the leaked information to the rival countries for money.

The other reason as to why cyber crime is posing a serious threat is because of the fact that it is usually very hard to track the hackers as they operate together but from far and different places, making it harder for the law enforcers to track and find them. These hackers usually operate from different and far off places, sometimes even different countries making it almost impossible for anyone to track them.

Thus national bodies and governments should operate together to make a legal framework and structure through which no hackers can slip through after committing cyber crime.
