With the Internet growing vast each day, you can’t compromise on your PC security. The risk of receiving infection has increased while you surf and download free stuff like music files, movies, and videos from the Web. Such matter is virus infected and multiplies itself once it gets into your system. Slow speed, redirecting of your startup homepage, frequent pop ups, shortcuts on your desktop, annoying advertisements and formation of unknown toolbars are some of the common symptoms that mark the entry of virus. Many people have an antivirus applications installed but they do not configure them correctly. Just installing the application does not mean that the application is working properly to stop the threat or infection. You must update your antivirus software regularly. Below is a tips to check either your antivirus software are working or not.
- Open your Notepad
- Copy the code exactly in the notepad : X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*
- Now Save it with the name fakevirus.exe in any of your folder/drives.
- If this file got deleted immediately, then it means that your antivirus is working properly and updated !!
- If this doesn't happens and you see the saved file in that folder do right click the file and select scan with your installed antivirus and if the scan shows the file then it means your antivirus is working properly but not updated with a new version, as best antivirus softwares detect any virus (at the same second when you save the same in your system)without your effort of going to specified folder and scanning the folder.
- If it doesn't shows any kind of threats then you need to change your antivirus software immediately with some good one with the new version.
There's always a lot of discussion as to which is the best free antivirus software product. But one product name always seems to be talked in these debates - AVG Antivirus. Considering this is free software, it offers an excellent level of protection. For several years, many computer users have said that this is the best free antivirus software.

What To Look For In A Surge Protector
Homes and offices can be destroyed within seconds by power surges or fluctuations. Delicate electronics and valuable machinery can turn into liabilities if you don’t protect them from harm. According to experts it is sensible to safeguard your office, toys, game room, and electronic equipment from power surges and spikes by installing a surge protector.
Here are a few insights into what to look for in a surge protector:
- Look for a surge protector with a lower UL rating. Always compare clamping voltages and check whether the rating reflects 500amp results.
- Invest in a surge protector that protects all three lines; hot, neutral, and ground.
- Ask whether the surge protector has a circuit breaker, one that stops the flow of electricity when there is overloading too. Overloading problems are distinct from surges or spikes.
- An ideal surge protector must shut off all power to outlets when the situation is beyond its controls.
- Seek maximum protection and insist on a surge protector that has a ground indicator light.
- Find out what the response time of the machine is. The response rating indicates how fast the surge protect will react. Choose a protector that has a fast response time.
- Choose a surge protector that offers coax line protection and has a specially designed digital satellite jack.
- Many surge protectors have an alarm that rings to warn that it is not functioning and should be replaced or repaired.
Don't forget to check warranties, service requirements, adaptability and features before you buy a surge protector. Look for a warranty that includes a data recovery clause. This is a much needed bonus these days with computers function everywhere.

"NEED" - Concept Cell Phone
This concept phone is called “Need” and designed by Mr. Tamer Koseli. It has two displays - a simple OLED one which displays basic information, and a touchscreen that goes along all the length of the phone as demonstrated in the picture. You can lock and unlock the phone by sliding the first screen up and down, as shown in the picture. Mr. Tamer Koseli also seems to have strong opinion on the functions that a mobile phone should have. His concept doesn’t include any camera, MP3 player or anything of sorts; everything is limited to communicational features only. Nice concept anyway.

USB to IDE Adapter?
As a computer user, you need a way of transferring data from one computer to another. How many times have you needed to take the data from an old hard drive? What a hassle it is to open up the computer and add the drive just to get some data off it. There is a better way. It is called a usb to ide adapter.
What is a usb to ide adapter? First off, let me start by saying that there are usb to ide/sata adapters out there that support IDE and SATA drives, but for sake of brevity, I will refer to them generically as usb to ide adapters. Anyway, a usb to ide adapter is a device that connects to a hard drive or CD/DVD and allows you to access them via a computer's usb port. Simply put, it translates the IDE commands and data to usb format for the PC to access the device without installing it physically in the computer. That is pretty neat, isn't it?
How do I use this adapter? I am glad you asked. The adapter has an IDE connector on one side and the other side has a usb connector. You simply plug the IDE connector into the device you want to access. Hard drives also need to be set to master or single drive mode. You accomplish this by setting the jumper on the drive. There is a picture on the label that shows you where to put the jumper. Some Western Digital drives require you to remove the jumper entirely. Once you have the adapter plugged in, you must also plug the power cable into the connector next to the data cable. This is very simple because the connectors are shaped differently and mixing them up is not possible.
Once all the connections to the drive are complete, plug the cable into any available usb port on your computer. Plug in the power supply for the adapter. You should hear the drive spin up. There will be some gentle clicking and whirring sounds. If you are using Windows XP, you will hear a po-dink sound as the adapter is recognized. In the lower right corner, you will see messages like "Drive Found", or the model number of the drive will flash by. Eventually, if all is well, you will get a message saying that the device is ready to use.
Windows will assign a drive letter to a drive that is already formatted. From the file explorer, you can now copy and delete files. You can also reformat the drive if you want. Any regular drive function can be performed via the usb interface.
Your usb to ide adapter can also be used to diagnose problematic Windows installations. If you plug a drive into the usb to ide adapter that was used to boot a PC, you can now use disk utilities to fix the problems. You can also access files that would normally be locked by Windows. This allows great flexibility because you can modify/repair Windows system files and user data. Before doing any operations on system files, use your backup software to create a complete image of your hard drive just in case you goof something up.

Cordless Propane Mosquito Trap
It’s hard to believe you and your family have had a wonderful time away from home whether it is having a picnic or going to the amusement park and then you get home and realize you are all covered in mosquito bites. Not only are they painful but they are very very irritating and nowadays they can even be dangerous to your health.
So here’s a gadget to keep those pests away. This is the only cordless device that uses CO2 (released from the tank to attract the pests which apparently think it is a human exhaling), octenol, and a battery powered thermoelectric module to virtually eradicate mosquitoes over an area up to one acre, eliminating the need to string an electrical cord across your property. The trap controls biting insects for up to three weeks with a standard 20 lb. propane tank, and it features lightweight, weatherproof PVC and plastic construction and large wheels for easy mobility. So now you can enjoy the great outdoors, but do remember to keep safe.

Font Tehcnology
Fonts are the typeface that can be reproduced on the screen and printed on paper. A font is actually the design on the letters of the alphabet and the type is the size of the font. A font is a set of characters of the alphabet in a single typeface. This means that all the letters of the alphabet as well as the numbers will have the same basic design even though the size may change.
In the beginning there were the bitmap fonts that were used on windows and Macs. These fonts had a drawback, they could not be enlarged because they would break up and look horrible when printed. Then Apple and Microsoft came up with the 'True Font' type that we use today. These fonts and their type can be reduced and enlarged a great deal and still appear normal without getting the jagged edges the bitmap fonts would produce. There are the 'bitmap' font type, the 'true' font type and 'true type rasterizer' font type that are largely used today. All the fonts are entered into the registry of a system and from here they are linked to the documents that are using them.
Digital fonts come in two basic flavors: PostScript Type 1 and TrueType. Want to know more about fonts and which font format is best for you? Check out this link(Font Search) and you can also go to this link(Fonts.com - Download over 125,000 Fonts!
)
Having the right font or typeface in your marketing campaign such as your advertising flyers is as important as getting the right picture to accompany the message you want to convey. Your font is vital in getting your target clients attracted to your ads. Each style will definitely determine how your target readers would react to your ad. And your fonts would definitely be able to influence your target audience’s buying decisions based on its impact.

Special Appearance by Bill Gates Via Holographic Tech
Bill Gates, chairman of software giant Microsoft Corp, made a special appearance via holographic technology at the 16th World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) 2008 in Kuala Lumpur yesterday(Monday). The image was shot in high-definition and projected in high-definition onto a plastic foil that was stretched out in the center's Plenary Hall. The holographic Gates spoke about the wonders of computing power, and how it is growing and creating more opportunities worldwide. The result was certainly lifelike and impressive.

Speed Up PDF Viewing?
You've probably noticed that Acrobat Reader is not the quickest application to launch. As Adobe has piled on the features over the years, load and viewing times have increased as well. That's troublesome for those who simply want PDF files to open as quickly as possible so that the content can be viewed.
There are a couple of routes that you can take to speeding things up. First, there's a free application called Adobe Reader SpeedUp that's widely available on the Internet. One reason Adobe Reader is so slow to start up is that it utilises a lot of plug-ins by default. These plug-ins (small applications that add functionality) are useless to most people but do add some functionality. Adobe Reader SpeedUp can disable those plug-ins, thereby leaving you with just the reader.
Another route you can take is to ditch the Adobe Reader application altogether and use an alternative. Although the PDF file format was created by Adobe, plenty of Reader knock-offs now exist and some of these have grown popular, largely because they're fast. One of the most popular is Foxit Reader. Boasting small size and quick startup times, Foxit runs under all current versions of Windows and supports most of the functionality that the full-blown Adobe Reader does. It's worth a try.

Multiple Websites in Firefox
Many of us have multiple websites that we like to visit when we first open our browser everyday. Wouldn't it be nice if you could set more than one homepage in Firefox? The good news is that you can!
Just go to Tools/Options/Main in Firefox and in the homepage field, enter your favorite webpages separated by the "|" vertical separator (without quotation marks). The next time you open your web browser or click on the Home button, all the pages you've set up will open in separate tabs.

P-Per - Futuristic Cell Phone by Chocolate Agency
Creative thinking is a potential we are all born with. Creative thinking goes beyond just solving specific problems or inventing new things. I really adore someone who really creative. In this post I want to share with you a unique concept cell phone called P-Per. P-Per is an impressively simple and sustainable mobile phone with an unlikely combination of features. It was designed by Chocolate Design Agency.
P-Per is made out entirely of sustainable materials, such as extruded polycarbonate to cope with its physical functions (body, screen protection, unique click); hypoallergenic and recyclable titanium parts; the e-paper screen to display images with no distortions, and without the need of power supply; and an Organic Radical battery that is free from heavy metals. It is at once simple, advanced, green and unique. As one might imagine, this cellphone does not offer the most terribly complicated operations but I think it’s worth having our planet live a couple more million years. Great concept! No wonder this cell phone was awarded for the Red Dot Concept Design.

How to avoid getting phished
Phishing is a computer crime in which phishers fraudently acquire sensitive information like credit card details and passwords. Phishing is carried out using fake emails or instant messages, where the phisher masquerades as a trustworthy person or business like a bank or an online organization such as eBay or PayPal. Below is some tips on how to avoid getting phished.
- Do not reply to emails or pop-up messages asking for personal info. Do not click on the link in that message too.
- Do not email personal or financial information.
- Regardless of who sends them, be cautious of opening any attachment or downloading any files from emails.
- Look for the 'lock' icon on the browser's status bar for secure website.
- Use updated anti-virus software and a firewall. The anti-virus will protect you from accepting unwanted files containing software can harm your computer or track your activities on the Internet without your knowledge.
- fire-wall will make you invisible on the internet and block all communications from anauthorized sources.
- Review credit card and bank statements as soon as you receive them and check for unauthorized charges.
How to identify phishing messages?
- Emails containing spelling mistakes or bad grammar.
- Lack of personal greeting.
- Misspelled URLs or the presence of subdomains.
- The presence of '@' symbol in the URL. Most browsers tend to ignore all characters preceding the @ symbol. So a web address http://www.PayPal.com@mysite.com may look like a page of PayPal but will take you to mysite.com
- Presence of an IP address in the link.
While some fraudulent emails are easy to detect, others are very sophisticated and detailed in their deception. For instance, the sender can look legitimate, the subject line can be credible, and the links and logos within the email can all match those of the brand being imitated. For the sake of the latter case, every email from a known brand requesting information should be treated with suspicion. Never click a link within the email, but rather use a search engine to find the organization's Web site. Better yet, type the URL directly into the browser's address bar. On the same note, never reply to the email, but rather use the contact page on the organization's Web site to email or phone a response.
Hopefully this tips will help you stay safe online, and put phishers out of business.

Tap Your Own Phone Line?
by: Kingston Amadan
It may seem kind of strange that you would want to know how to tap your own phone line. After all, aren’t phone taps meant to be used on other people? However, there is a definite advantage to having a tap on your own line, as long as you are the one doing the tapping. The best thing you can do, especially if you are fielding some pretty important or incriminating phone calls, is to record them. You can use them for bargaining, or you can use them as evidence that someone is behaving inappropriately.
It is not too hard to learn how to tap your own phone line using simple and relatively inexpensive items that can be picked up from your local electronics store. You will need one Ferrite split core assembly, 75 feet of 28 AWG magnetic coil wire (enameled), one 1/8th inch mini-lug cable (should have tinned ends), and make sure have heat shrink tubing, tie wraps, and electrical tape.
One you have all of these items, it is time to begin learning how to tap your own phone line. Open the core assembly and wind the coil around the end that does not open. There should be roughly 100 turns of coil. You should leave a six inch tail sticking out before you start winding, and then at the end, create a second six inch tail when you clip the wire.
Use fine grit sand paper on the last half inch of the coil wire to remove the enamel. You have to be careful not to break the wire. Slip the tubing over each end of the wire for insulation purposes. Then, solder the ends of the mini phone plug to the coil wire. Use tie wraps to secure the cable to the tap, and insulate solder joints with electrical tape. Slip one (and one only) of the phone conductor circuit through the split core. You can then attach the core to a tape recorder to record all conversations that you wish.
This is a very simple way that you can create your own effective phone tap quickly and inexpensively. Additionally, you have the peace of mind that comes with being able to record conversations because you know how to tap your own phone line.

Mother's Day Gift
Mother's Day offers a chance to show the moms in your life that you appreciate what they do all year long. This year, show Mom that you think she's still cool by giving a gift that has some staying power. Sure, cakes and flowers are nice, but they don't last, and they don't have the "wow" factor of electronics.
Well, I think this iWaveCube Tiny Microwave is a cool gift for your moms. It is perfect for the spare room or mom's office if she's a microwave popcorn junkie or is always looking for a quick reheat on her coffee or tea. It's the world's smallest microwave oven, about one cubic foot in size. It is proved by its measures (10″ x 10.5″ x 12″) and its weight (12 lbs). Peugeot Moovie - Concept Car
The Moovie concept car built by Peugeot has a length of just 2,3 metres (7.6 ft) and width and height of 1,5 metres (4.9 ft). Access is created by two large sliding doors placed in the centre of the hub-less side-wheels.
Each wheel is independently driven by an electric motor, allowing the Moovie to rotate on its own axis and squeeze into the tightest parking spots. To increase stability, the two side-wheels are tilted inwards under a ten degree angle. The front-end conceals two small additional wheels which only operate as safety supports. In the future it could be possible to make such a vehicle self-balancing using gyroscopes and balance sensors.
The bright, elegantly styled passenger compartment generates a feeling of well-being. The plunging front windscreen and generous polycarbonate glazed surface area ensure a high level of brightness in the passenger compartment whilst accentuating the sense of space. The lines are soft, in perfect harmony with the two yellow pigments used for the interior. The two-tone fascia panel with its smooth lines is mounted on a slightly curved central pillar. Free of all rough edges, it houses an instrument panel consisting of two tonneau-shaped counters and a single-spoke steering wheel. The two one-piece seats incorporate an on-board seat belt.
The vehicle also features numerous innovations. Its doors, which house the rear wheels, have a dual function. The first allows easy access to the passenger compartment, thanks to two swivel doors. The second reduces the energy consumption required to drive the Moovie, thanks to its large wheel dimensions. In addition, the Moovie is exceptionally agile under all circumstances and can be driven easily in restricted spaces thanks to the two spheres located at the front.
I think it’s a good idea, but not practical as any form of family or industrial vehicle. There’s no space to logically fit your shopping and etc. but it’s cool nevertheless. It is a truly futuristic design.

Citizen Watch - Eco-Drive Technology
You can often find the word attached to every new Citizen Watch that comes on the market but by now it is just expected that consumers know the meaning of this buzzword. It's quite simple really, it is the title of Citizen's latest technology. These watches are a new high-tech range of solar powered timepieces.
Obviously, one of the most important advantages of this technology is that these watches should never need a replacement battery (unless there is a fault), allowing you get on with your everyday tasks without your watch starting to loose time.
These watches are of usual size and do not have any strange additions. Citizen have simply put a solar charging panel behind the dial, so any natural or artificial light puts a charge into a lithium-ion battery. This battery then keeps the watch running at all times - even when there is no source of light.
In the unlikely even that the watch becomes low on charge, the watch will compensate by keeping time in 2 second increments instead of 1 second increments. Normal function can be resumed by putting the watch in a source of light for a slightly extended period of time. Pretty cool huh?

MP4 Technology
Most people have heard of MP3s, however, there may still be some confusion over MP4 technology, how it’s used and what it does.
MP4 is a shortened name for MPEG-4. Sometimes otherwise known as MPEG-4 AVC, the AVC standing for Advanced Video Coding. As this name suggests, it is a format used for encoding digital video files. It was created in 1998 and is now gaining ever more popularity in the mainstream market. The ‘MPEG’ part of the name is an abbreviation of Motion Pictures Expert Group, who are the body involved in setting industry standards for digital video and audio.
MP4 technology works by compressing the files, making the overall size much smaller, in a similar way to that of MP3 technology, although much more advanced and complex. The introduction of MP3s made music and audio files more accessible to the consumer and MP4s are set to do the same for the video market.
MP4s are made up of several types of media in what is known as a container format. They allow for video, audio, still images and subtitles to be stored together in a single file and have the capability of including advanced content, including menus, user interaction and 3D graphics.
Earlier forms of video files were large, making them difficult to work with, but compression and decompression techniques, known as codecs, used in the MP4 format, decrease the size of the files considerably. These work by removing all unnecessary information from each frame of the video, without losing any of the quality.
MP4s make video much more accessible and files can be downloaded quickly from the internet. The format has streaming capabilities, meaning the video can be viewed as it downloads and doesn’t need to be saved to the hard drive of your computer first.
Playback too is simple, not only can the video be watched in real time as it streams, it can be saved, stored and watched later on a variety of players. Portable MP4 players are one such option as are some DVD players and of course a desktop computer or laptop.
MP3 audio files can also be listened to using an MP4 player as can the older video format MPEG-2. Files associated with MP4s have the extension .mp4 or sometimes .mp4a or .mp4v, the a and v standing for audio and video respectively.
The output of the MP4 format is extremely high quality, as crisp and clear as that of a DVD. Movies can be downloaded quickly via the internet using the high-speed broadband connections currently available, and watched in the comfort of your own home. Movies and clips can be shared easily via email and other formats.
The MP4 technology is widely used by the business sector on the internet. Advertising and product promotion is easily incorporated in short videos on websites. With the ability to integrate future technology, the MPEG-4 format is a valuable addition to the digital age. Whether for fun or as a business tool, MP4 is a versatile format.

Where To Download Music?
It is common knowledge that you can download anything you want online, but the question that you have to ask is, where to download music from. Music is one of the most downloaded items on the Net, and it is no surprise, considering that the option is buying a CD, which is much more expensive. So, next time you want to add a song to your collection, consider the different options available.
How can you make a decision on where to download music from? First, you have to know what all are the options available and then you have to decide which will be the best for you. The problem is that there are so many options that it is easy to get confused and very hard to make a decision. It will help if you look at the different ways of downloading music as part of three groups.
1- P2P sharing
Peer-to-peer file sharing networks are usually free. You have to download and install the software, and your computer will become part of the network. You will download the music you want from files in other people’s computers. Often, this means risking your privacy and getting corrupt or infected files. The advantage is that it is free. That is a big consideration when you want to decide where to download music from, but you have to be ready to tale the risks involved.
2- Pay-per-song downloading sites
If your first consideration is the expense, this form of downloading is not for you. There are many websites that provide this service. The files you download will be safe and will not cause any problems either for your computer or for your player, but this can cause as big a hole in your pocket as buying CDs do. Unless you only download a few songs once in a while, this will not give you any savings, even if you decide to opt for monthly subscription. Once your subscription is over, you might not be able to open these files.
3- Lifetime pay once membership websites
This kind of downloading is the happy mean of the other two. You only have to pay once, and will have no more charges, and you will get safe and uncorrupt files. You will also have every right to do as you please with the songs once you download them – put them on CDs or your player, move them to another system, etc. You will not have to pay more than $50, and it is all completely legal. There are websites that offer various combinations of these services, for example, for some you pay less per download, but pay an amount every month. These options are good for people who only download a few tracks. So keep your needs in mind when you decide where to download music from.
Now that you have all your options, all you have to do is decide which fits your requirements the best. Once the question of where to download music from is answered, you will have extensive collections at your fingertips.

Vacuum Mouse?
Japanese gadget specialist Thanko has created a mouse that’s also a miniature vacuum cleaner. Built into the 62 x 115 x 40mm mouse is a dinky vacuum that sucks up crumbs, dust and fingernail clippings through a small hole in the rodent's base. The Vacuum mouse connects via USB 1.1 and has an 800dpi sensor and looks just like any other three button mouse on the market. The little switch on the side turns on the vacuum cleaner. This mouse is only available currently in Japan at a cost of $19USD. For those who are just too lazy to shake the mouse pad in the wastebasket, this could be quite ideal.
